Here are the rules.
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. The rules are to tag five people. I am not tagging anyone. Do it if it amuses you.
The nearest book is RailsSpace Building A Social Networking Website with Ruby on Rails (can we tell I am at work?)
>> valid_endings = %w(com org net edu es jp info)
=> ["com", "org", "net", "edu", "es", "jp", "info"]
>> valid_endings.collect do |ending|
The next closest book is Oracle 9i Database Administrator, so that wouldn't be that much more exciting.

Not all of us are homophobes...help out! Here's a chance to tip the scales of this group's own survey.
The AFA (American Family Association) is expecting an overwhelming majority of respondents to say that they would be 'less likely' to do business with a company if they knew it supported the "homosexual agenda" (whatever that is). So far, they are getting the results they seek. Of course, they are only sending it where they will get the expected results.
Let's change the outcome by completing the 1-question survey and sending it to everyone we know who is tired of this way of thinking. Follow the link below to take action on this important issue. Go to http://www.afa.net/petitions/busine sses/businesses.asp and pass it on!

SCA Meme by
attack_laurel:
1. What is your SCA name? (You don't have to write the full name, just your first name if you want.)
Odette d'Amboise formerly Alanna Brigid O'Riordain
2. What is your home kingdom?
Midrealm
3. Have you ever lived in another kingdom? If so, where?
Not technically. I was born and raised in DC Metro which is Atlantia but didn't join the SCA until I move to the Midwest.
4. Do you remember your first SCA event? When/what was it?
5. Do you have any awards?
Yes I do, and they're in the Midrealm Order of Precedence
6. Do you list them after your name in communications like e-mail?
Very rarely. It usually is with someone who only responds to perceived rank and then I throw it all in and which ever kingdom deputy office I happen to hold at the time.
7. Do you have a device?
Yes, it the icon on this journal entry
8. Do you use it? On what?
Sometimes. I use it on Legio Draconnis postings and some LJ. Since my husband is a armoured combat fighter, most of the heraldic stuff has his device or badge. Big plus his device is a lot more simple to render in fabric.
9. Are you on all the kingdom/society lists available to you, or do you avoid them?
It depends. I am on some office based lists, like the Minister of Youth ones, and the local group lists. I find that many lists have a very low noise to signal ratio and I have unsubscribed to them.
10. Do you keep your Pennsic/Estrella/Gulf Wars/etc. site tokens?
Some, they are scattered around my sewing room.
11. Do you keep the favours you've been given by royalty/friends/SOs, etc.? Do You wear them all?
Yes. Most are in my accessory box. Occasionally, I wear them if it is appropriate.
12. Do you call your friends by their SCA names even when you're not at an event?
Until I changed my SCA, very few people used my SCA name even at events. After the name change, people use my SCA name at events, but very few people call me Odette outside of SCA related activities.
13. Do you go out to dinner in garb after an event?
Heck no. I dress at events and change back before I leave, unless I am exhausted and I will stay in garb for the ride home.
14. Do you have all kinds of garb, or do you generally stick to one period?I
I still have a closet full of garb with spans the several centuries, but I tend to stick with fitted gowns or Burgundian gowns.
15. How many interests do you have within the SCA? What's your favourite?
I have several interests. I suspect costuming is my favourite.
16. Do you have an SCA-oriented web site (to show off projects, keep dress diaries, etc.)?
I am working on one.
17. Do you maintain a hairstyle that is more period style than modern? How about any other part of your appearance?
I used to have a more period style, but I changed recently to a flattering modern style. I should have my hair covered by a veil or a hat, so I saw no need to keep a period style that no one should see.
18. Do you tell "No $###, there I was" stories? (Admit it.) Do any of them involve well-known SCA people?
Yes I have some, no I don't tell, and yes they do involve well-known SCA people. And they are highly embarrassing to the people involved which is why I don't repeat them.
19. Authenticity is Fun. Yes or no? Why?
Absolutely, authenticity is fun. It is challenge to aspire to authentic artifact reproduction. I learn a lot about the how and the why.
20. Is there one modern thing at events that really bugs you?
I can ignore modern things at events, it is modern things at demos that drive me around the twist.
Bonus Question! 21. Everyone has a shameful garb/accessory mistake hidden somewhere in their past. What's yours? (We're all friends here, we promise not to laugh. Much.)
Mine are hidden in the past because my truly heinous mistakes have been completely destroyed and there are not many pictures with me in them. I did have some ghastly first attempts. My fencing skirt still survives and was made of the white and black striped $1/yard polyester, but the stripes are all matched dammit!

| How Maryland Are You?
Your Result: You're 100% Maryland
You have erected a shrine to Ray Lewis in your living room, complete with a "BELIVE 'HON" bumper sticker on your car. You can name every county in the state and refer to Howard County as "Ho Co." The second you step over the stae line, you feel weird, and need a Natty Bo. |

The buttons are all done!! I have started the handwork on the sleeves. I didn't have silk taffeta to interface the buttonholes, but I did have some silk noil which I cut to fit. I have basted it together and will start on buttonholes tonight. I will be using a silk/wool blend for the buttonholes.
